The kids have gone to sleep, so i blog.

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

So I’ve been babysitting for some extra money. Not only do I get to pay my bills, I’ve found that caring for children can be a quite rewarding thing to do.

These kids…they’re such perceptive and sensitive beings. Much love and edification is needed in these stages of developing opinions about the world and themselves. My hope for them is that they grow to be strong, confident human beings fighting for truth and love. I look after them making sure that our limited time together reflects that. From something as small as listening to their opinions to making sure that they have balanced meals, everything counts in terms of conveying that message! And watching them react to the safe atmosphere provided for them is so much more rewarding than just caring for them, ten fold! When they know that they’re free to express their individuality and talents, you never know what to expect.

I’m also beginning to appreciate my mom’s efforts to provide for me a sense of stability and peace during my childhood. For as long as I can remember, all of her time was devoted to keeping a clean, comfortable home full of good food for me. I don’t believe that I was being ‘sheltered’ from the truth anymore, but rather, I’m beginning to realize that she hoped for me to have a safe haven where I can develop a sense of self. Pretty cool of her.

We were at the drug store the other day and came across the new issue of Vanity Fair. The beautiful Kate Winslet graced the cover. She looks amazing!

Yoko Ono’s Wish Tree

“Since opening on August 2, Wish Trees for Pasadena itself has evolved into a multifaceted snapshot into people’s hearts, with wishes demonstrating an astounding range of expression. From the whimsical to the sublime, the personal to the global, they tell the story of aspirations, deepest hopes and sometimes humorous observations about the world around us.”
-from onecolorado.com site

The wishes are going to be ‘harvested’ and sent to the John Lennon memorial in Iceland, but the myrtle trees that hold these wishes now are going to be permanently planted at the Arlington Gardens in Pasadena. Let’s go see the wishes before they’re sent off and maybe make one for ourselves?
