cocococo i like saying coco

Cousin Linda found out that we were going to go to the same event, so why not go together?

And meet some of her friends? Some old, some new faces.

It was an advanced screening of Coco Before Chanel(2009) at the Skirball. Great film that was beautifully shot, but it didn’t really focus on her passion for fashion. Rather, the love story between her and Boy Capel was highlighted(which I didn’t think was that romantic in the first place, imho).
For a more overall view of her incredible life, I’d recommend the Lifetime miniseries starring Shirley Maclaine. I know i know, SM as Coco? hehe yes, there were some cringing moments of embarassment for her and for the poor acting in general, but it was quite entertaining, i remember it to be. Also, it helped me understand how the designer came to be, therefore cultivating a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship and label of the Chanel brand.
If i were to make a biopic based on her life, I’d mix the cinematic assets of Coco Before Chanel and the concentration on her passion for fashion from the LT miniseries. Possibly a movie of her summer at Deauville, where she perfected her craft and style as a way to escape the war as well as her intensely turbulent relationship with Boy? The beginning of her fame and legendary career and the height of her romance, if you will. Ok, I’ll shutup now.

So that’s everyone. and me.

I couldn’t stop staring at my cousin’s hand. SHE’S ENGAGED, i can’t believe it. The fact was just starting to sink in when the girls started talking about dresses and wedding planning. I got freaked out all over again. I’m happy for her though.

So cool how all of us did the same things but all of our shots have such different perspectives. I would never take a picture of my cousin checking out her leg(?) behind a pretty backdrop in westwood, or to take a group picture in accordance with the rule of thirds. Nor do I think that these girls would care to take pictures of the chairs at the Skirball (or would they? i dunno). Ok, I’ll shutup again.

just…the queen, haha

After watching the September Issue (2009), I really don’t think Anna Wintour is ‘the Ice Queen’ as people have referred to her. In fact, I’ve come to respect her she and all the hard work that she’s put in her line of work. She knows what she has to do and gets it done. Loveit.
I can’t stop watching the trailer. It’s like reliving last night’s memories or something… even though the movie was cut off due to technical difficulties at the theater. I couldn’t watch the last few minutes, but I got a full refund AND a free pass to come back and watch another movie for freeeee. weeee.

Warm Fuzzy Feelings

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Warm, fuzzy feelings all weekend as I spent as much time as I could with my closest friends who would leave me come Monday. Sarah Wonnie Nick and Sam have all taken off on planes to their respective cities of work and school now. It’s as if Sinae and I are a married couple who’s sent their last kid off to college. Our LA nest is empty, and we’re just waiting for them to return home..

An Unlikely Friendship

Saturday, September 19th, 2009
Sam and I met when I first moved to Diamond Bar. He was a Senior and I was a Sophomore in high school, and when I transferred over to dbhs we had three classes together, haha. I would always sit behind him too, because we were seated alphabetically and Sou Kim came after Sam Kim. Half my time at school was spent trying not to inhale the o-so-aromatic gas he emitted.
We didn’t like each other at first. He was a lazy ass druggie and I was a stuck up bitch. Fast forward ten years, during which God’s grace has worked in each of our lives and in our friendship. So much has happened over the years and we’ve both changed a lot, growing close through it all. Now he’s like the big brother I never had, haha. Blessed.
He’s leaving for Kuwait on Monday, so we got together last night to say our goodbyes. It’s his third deployment, and seriously, it doesn’t get easier to see him go. But he’s a great soldier and will be doing great things where ever he goes, so I’m not too worried.

Lick No came home for the weekend too (all the way from nyc!), to say good-bye.

Look what he brought me from indonesia!

The three of us. Can he ever take a normal picture?

Thatsa better.
