from Ji Lee:

Suggu (“Mix” in Korean) is a new alphabet mixing Hangul(Korean Alphabet) and Roman Alphabet. Because they are both Phonetic Alphabets—a writing system based on a set of symbols representing different sounds—mixing the two is possible and easy. Combine Roman Alphabet’s consonants (B, C, D, F, G…) with Hangul’s vowels (ㅏ, ㅑ, ㅓ, ㅕ…). That’s Suggu.

I got promoted at work today. It’s a nice feeling, to know that my hard work paid off. To commemorate this “movin’ on up” feeling, I bought myself a Mini Designer Blind Box Chair from Poketo, in hopes of getting the Red and Blue Chair by Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld, a very special and personal piece of art.

I fell in love with this chair during the first art history class i took during my junior year of high school. It represented harmony between style, function and some kind of ‘back to the basics’ kinda reasoning that comes from the use of primary colors and geometric shapes… and being the troubled, confused teen that I was back then, this chair shed some light as to what could actually make sense in this world. Its rationality was appealing and its function was inviting….and I just wanted to sit in that chair just once so that my life would seem a little bit more comprehensible.

I took my desire to understand more about life, art and people and applied it to my studies, my work, my personal life. It’s been a weird and unconventional road with lots of reality checks (biggest lesson learned? art theories do not relate to every situation in life) but here i am now. Just as confused and naive, but moving forward and wanting to learn more. This new job allows me to continue that pursuit.

It’s a blind box series so there’s only a 1 out of 9 chance that I will get that specific chair. I won’t be bummed out if i dont get it; one thing i learned over the years was to roll with the punches. Wouldn’t mind the Eames chair either haha. I can’t wait to put it on my desk!
