This is the show I’m in. I don’t even consider myself an artist, but this really cool curator dude who liked my stuff asked me to be in it. So i was like, ‘sure’. At first I didn’t want to tell anyone I was in a show but realized that this isn’t about me but it’s about what the show can do for the charities and for the community. blah blah

I think I’ll only have one piece tho. It’s not a desirable subject. It doesn’t make you feel happy and it’s def not something you’d want to hang on your walls. But you’ll see.

May 1st.
6pm-12am @ Echo Curio.
1519 Sunset Blvd.

Everyone’s invited to come. It’s a cheap date idear, something to do. Good music, art and a few opportunities to support some good charities. I’ll be around… but not the whole time. Got stuff to do, people to see, u know. jk.

DAVID CHOE Nothing to Declare promo from viejas del mercado on Vimeo.

this friday, who wants to go

hey dchoe, want my nunchucks?

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

david choe’s show in la is coming up in april, and we’ve been seeing his show posters all over the city. ive spotted some in silverlake and hollywood.

according to his blog, he’ll be giving some away in exchange for any of these things:

1)weapons (guns,knives,batons,brass knuckles)
2)vehicles (bikes ,hammerhead skateboards, segways ,no rollerblades,no roller skates, or snowboards)
3)rugs
4)Los Angeles Raiders t-shirts large and x-large
5)remote control toys(cars,helicopters)

i got a pair of nunchucks, think he’ll take it? all i gotta do is take them to griffith observatory this sunday and look for some guy in a cape, then the exchange can occur. if dchoe or the cape guy doesnt consider them weapons, maybe i can show them my moves and they’ll reconsider. either way, i think i wanna go. hopefully i wont be feeling lazy that day. these posters better not be torn up or have pictures of private parts incorporated into them.

what is art? is art art?

Even without watching it, I have so many reasons to love the new movie (Untitled) (2009), which is opening next weekend. First, it’s a movie…about art. My two loves! Second, I have a thing for Adam Goldberg so it’s really exciting for me to see him as the star of a film. Ever since Two Days in Paris (2007) and his role as that cocky kid Nicky Rubenstein on Entourage, I’ve thought that this super tall, super hairy Jewish man was so funny, so smart, so sexy. haha. Seriously though, there’s this one particular scene in Two Days that was so intense and so real that I really admired him and Julie Delpy from then on. If you’ve seen the movie, let’s talk!

Anyway. He’s in (Unititled) as a struggling experimental musician who is compared to his brother, a successful artist in the Chelsea gallery scene. The trailer explains it. But what usually happens in comedies about the art world is that it can easily fall into the trap of being sarcastic about the whole thing. Hopefully the film explores the honest question of what art is while using humor as a vehicle, and not just for the sake of being funny. That’s my third reason to watch it.
