So when my friends asked me what I wanted to do for my “21st” birthday this year, I told them that I just wanted an old fashioned picnic. Some friends and food and I was good. Never did I imagine my friends to throw me a party like this:

there were balloons. i love balloons. see how excite i am about the freaking balloons.

there was kite flying. lisa particularly enjoyed this.

bubble making. minnie, the real 21 year old, had fun.

heidi and others joined in on the fun too. now it’s a proven fact: kids and adults alike all love bubbles. haha

there were temporary tattoos. sam showing off his permanent ones. dont let the biceps and tattoos fool you; he’s the sweetest person you’ll ever meet!
just gotta say that i cherish our friendship very much. we’ve come a long road together and it’s so hard to see you deploy for the third time, but you’re a great guy doing great things and a positive influence in everyone’s life so i’m not worried. i’ll be praying for you!

there were party favors! cracker jacks (baseball theme), baseballs, disposable cameras, and gum! lol. i spent six hours designing those stupid labels (my only contribution to the party, didnt want to feel like i did nothing), and they came out alright.

good music. i was surprised to see these little speakers provide decent sound for the outdoor space. pretty lound and not staticky.

and most importantly, there was good food. my friends are AMAZING cooks (AND they’re smart engineers. and so much fun. AND single. any takers?).

they tried to be considerate and keep the food vegetarian for my sake… but couldnt resist and just put the meatloaf in there. i think the best part of the meal were the spreads. i love sauces and spreads, and they tasted so good.

there was a pinata!!!

everyone tried to hit it

i think phil eventually broke it

there were other games. we played jeopardy because it’s my favorite game show that i watch religiously (dvr is awesome). 3 teams competed to answer questions about me and my interests, haha. it was entertaining, especially since abe surprisingly knew so many of the answers in the movies and art categories. the gameboard was impressive, but no pictures of it, boooo.
there were cupcakes!!!! dodger baseball and hello kitty!

there were great people in party hats.
my friends who planned/hosted the entire thing. minus sarah, who’s in nyc working to be the next great chef (she contributed to the party in her own way). all three of my friends are such wonderful people with such beautiful hearts, ready to serve others. i was soooo lucky to be on the receiving end of all their generosity and thoughtfulness!
here’s to a very memorable 21st birthday picnic~
(please dont ask me how old i really am)
