This is the show I’m in. I don’t even consider myself an artist, but this really cool curator dude who liked my stuff asked me to be in it. So i was like, ‘sure’. At first I didn’t want to tell anyone I was in a show but realized that this isn’t about me but it’s about what the show can do for the charities and for the community. blah blah

I think I’ll only have one piece tho. It’s not a desirable subject. It doesn’t make you feel happy and it’s def not something you’d want to hang on your walls. But you’ll see.

May 1st.
6pm-12am @ Echo Curio.
1519 Sunset Blvd.

Everyone’s invited to come. It’s a cheap date idear, something to do. Good music, art and a few opportunities to support some good charities. I’ll be around… but not the whole time. Got stuff to do, people to see, u know. jk.

…and Stones Throw and Intelligentsia know it. Their new collaboration is Stones Throw’s Ethiopium blend. Taking orders now till October 31th. Here’s the profile on the cool beans:

Varietal: indigenous, typical sub-type
Region: Yirgacheffe, Sidama
Altitude: 1700 – 1900m
Harvest: December – January

The Flavor Shouts Out: Tilahoun Gessesse
The Acidity Reminds Us Of: Alemehyu Eshete
And The Finish Is All About: Mulatu Astatke

Yeah, I have no idea what all of that means. I’m no coffee guru (there’s just too much to learn, i just like to drink it), but all I know is that I love Intelligentsia. It’s LA’s equivalent to Gimme! coffee in NYC and Blue Bottle up in Norcal. Nothing else compares! The weather in LA’s been a bit chilly these days, it’ll be great to start off one of these mornings drinking a fresh brew of Ethiopium, with a Madlib beat or Mayer Hawthorne’s soothing voice playing in the background. Oh, i guess theyre selling an Ethiopium mix too, by Oh No. Coolest collab ever!

IAmKoreAm.com‘s first LIVE webshow was a hit! Lots of people tuned in, asked questions, requested songs, and won the giveaways. Big ups to Big Phony for filling our office with beautiful music.

Comedian Danny Cho made an appearance. I saw him do the ‘ktown hotties’ impression in person! hehe, funny dude.

Weekend no. 37

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Caught Goh Nakamura and the Invisible Cities perform their first show on the Follow Your Whim tour. It was a really good, intimate performance, and the perfect way to insert a beautiful soundtrack to the weekend. I was sorry I couldn’t stay for the whole show.

Ktown. I hate this place so much, but I always come back. Think I’ve learned to tune out all the BS that goes on around there, and just appreciate it for things I come back for, like scooped out watermelon. :)

Saturday, I worked a little.

Then went to LACMA Late Night. Saw some BBoys twisting and turning their bodies in unfathomable ways…
Watercolored. Disclaimer: none of these beautiful images are by me. Mine was too ugly to display for even random people to see.

And got free food/drinks at the Muse after party. Hanging out at the old May Company building was really cool. Its art deco stye was so beautiful and had such a historical feel that it made me feel bad about 20something kids coming up here to break dance and drink soju.

Sunday was good. Church, bbq, then ice cream. PERFECTTT! I was happy… shoutout to Naptime for the free icecream and picture!
oh, and I finished the weekend off by watching 9. Beautiful movie, but I think it had a lot of religious connotations in it. Too tired to think about the overall message (i wasnt really paying attention either, so tired), so I’m just going to leave it at that it was a little bit scary and beautiful at the same time. BTW, I realllly wanna watch the new Tyler Perry despite its 3.1/10 star status on IMDb, is anyone down to watch that with me?!
This coming week is going to be super busy…. friends coming in from out of town, anniversary of friend’s death, another leaving on his third deployment for the army, another getting married…..a what an emotional rollercoaster ahead! Wish me luck..

It’s that time of year again. Peanut Butter Wolf spinning 9 straight nights from Sept 1st up to Sept 9, 2009. 9 nights in 9 different area codes, playing all 90′s music.

These parties he’s throwing, it’s true dedication man. Working nine straight days of sets that are hours and hours long is not an easy task for sure. You can tell he just wants to deliver good music to people. At PBWolf parties, it doesn’t matter where you’re from, what you’re wearing, or who you with, as long as you’re down with the music. I love that. Even after his set, he took the time to take pictures with and talk to all his fans who wanted to talk to him. Never did he once show any signs of impatience for them.
Went to two events already, it’s been pretty sick. Took the above pic last night, towards the end of his set. Think I wanna take my dslr on Sunday, to take some better shots of the show.
Love this pic of some man dancing in front of the screen that projects the videos.
hehe, i like this one too.

AM and his Undefeated shirt
It’s been a somber week in LA as life goes on but music lovers and tabloid junkies alike all mourn the death of DJ AM. Though it was quite cheesy, his celeb status and fame was well deserved because his talent lived up to it and kept him real. We used to see him time to time at Banana Split Sundaes when it was at LAX, and he’d get the crowd goin. Him and Aoki, those nights are memorable to me. Aside from the club sets, I loved his mixes too. He was able to put Isaac Hayes and Simian Mobile Disco on the same track, who would do that? I called him my musical soulmate.
It’s unfortunate that he had to go so soon. AM going like this is a harsh reality check that being tied to any type of addiction can be difficult not only to oneself but to one’s family and friends as well. It’s totally unfair.
Writing this entry as others remember him at the Palladium..
